The Fall of the Leaf - 25/365

My little contribution to Burn's Night. This is a fave walk of mine but it was very dark down there today. It did un-nerve me a little. I took an alternative route ( I know!!)

Day 24/365

Well, I've had a couple of days away from the blog.. bad me ! Anyhoo here we go.

In the right light, at the right time, everything is extraordinary.
Aaron Rose

A bog standard wine glass....nothing special, right ? but in the right light, a thing of beauty.
A half dead flower stem with some snow on it. BORING.  Put the right light behind it and voila !
A little pine tree at the edge of a forest. Who would see it ? Get the light right and it's a living thing.

Light can make so much difference. People need to look for the light in things all around them. It's there if you look hard enough

There, that's my words of wisdom for today. Now I'm going to switch all the lights off and go for some well needed sleep.

Day 19/365

Well, just about back on track after yesterday's 12 shift. I do them every week but yesterday just seemed a monster for some reason. I had a real non day today, I just couldn't get going. It's 11:00 pm, I've just had a beer and I'm coming awake just in time to go to bed. Typical. There is a stunning full moon tonight and it's a real clear sky so I really should be outside getting some shot's. I've got an idea for a full moon shot that I've been meaning to try for a while now but I've not really had a good shooting night. Maybe I'll get some shots before bed...maybe not, I've just checked,  it's -5 celcius outside.

Today's post was from my archives. It was taken when we had a real heavy fall of snow a couple of weeks ago. Some photoshop treatment (levels, colour, glamour blur & sharpen) I know that sounds strange. Why would you give a shot a glamour treatment (blur & soften) especially a landscape and then sharpen it. It sounds real daft, but I've found that if you use this technique on landscapes it gives them a real dreamy feel. It is one of my trademark tweaks in Photoshop. Oh yes, I added an icy looking frame effect too. Anyhoo, here's a before & after. I'm off now for a coffee and a bit of wind down before bed. See ya

My workstation

I thought I would let you see my little corner. Equipment is HP Touchsmart 'puter. Touch screen is really good if you set it up correctly. Trust widescreen graphics tablet. Canon iP4500 printer. Epson Stylus SX205 Printer/Scanner. The laptop is my wifes (Tosh Sattelite P300).  and of course a good set of Creative speakers for some background tunes.

Now for the wish list :
  • 27" iMac i5
  • Wacom Intuos 4 graphics pad
  • Epson Stylus 2880 A3 printer
  • Some talent!
I think that just about covers it :-)

I was trying to do something a little different for my 365 post today and decided to scan some objects on my flatbed scanner. After a few disasters I came up with this

Pretty uninspiring I thought, so I fired up photoshop and got to work. 24 layers and a lot of coffee later I ended up with a 55meg Tiff file that almost brought my computer to a standstill (oh for a Mac). Anyhoo, this is what I got

Much better I'm sure you'll agree. The scanner is a magnificent machine for this type of work. At maximum resolution it's like gigapixel camera but with little or no depth of field. I had to step the resolution down to 2400 dpi to make the file workable. But with some trial and error I got there. I really must try this again with some other items. See the full size image on my flickr stream here.

Well I've got an early start tomorrow so I'm off to nod.

Bringing it all together....

Hello, and welcome to my blog. I am attempting a 365 project on Flickr and thought I would blog it to give an insight into the pictures.

Hopefully, at the end of the year, I can bring it all ( photos, blogs, notes etc) together and publish it as a book. Nothing too grand, just a reminder of the year for me and maybe something that will eventually be used to remember me by.

Anyhoo, here we go. Please bear with me as I have never really blogged before and the blog may evolve as I get the hang of it.

I started my 365 on January 1st, so there is a little gap, but I'll worry about that later ;-)
